My name is Jhilya (ZHIL-ee-uh) - welcome! I am originally from the east coast, born and raised in Maryland, and lived in New York City, New Orleans, and Chicago before landing in southern California. I originally trained as a scientist and earned a PhD in Microbiology. Over the past 15 years, I have worked in a variety medical and public health fields, developing strategies to improve health and outcomes for marginalized communities. I bring a combination of scientific training, critical analysis skills, a passion for education and communication, and a deep respect for all those that I serve to each and every client.
I am a Black, queer, full-spectrum doula who has been supporting families in the Los Angeles Area since 2016. As a birth doula, I specialize in hospital-setting support, working closely with birthing people and their families to create spaces that align with their birthing goals. I also work with clients experiencing pregnancy termination and pregnancy loss at any stage. My work is defined by inclusivity, intersectionality, and an awareness that: no two families are the same, a multitude of factors and identities impact each pregnancy experience, and each client presents the gift of an opportunity to grow and learn while providing support.
